MICHAEL GIEDRAITIS

Michael Giedraitis

 

Michael Giedraitis; Blessed (d. 1485). He entered the Order of canons regular (White Augustinians) in Bistrycia (Bystryca) , Northeast of Vilnius, and remained there for the noviciate. In 1460 he gained a doctorate in philosophy from Cracow University. Because of his extraordinary piety he was beatified in 1544. The first authentic fact about Giedraitis’ secluded monastic life were presented by the Polish chronicler Mieshowita, who also wrote about St. Casimir who died on March 4, 1484. Blessed Michael died on May 5, 1485.
